HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-14-2003THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, AUGUST 14, 2003 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2003 in the Community Room in the Municipal Building. Chairperson Bob Goodwin presided, with Robin Henry, Bruce Metzger, and Assistant City Attorney Joel Harvey in attendance. The following business was conducted: APPROVAL OF MINUTES Henry made a motion to approve the minutes for July 31, 2003, second by Goodwin and the motion was carried on a voice vote. Henry made a motion to approve the minutes for August 7, 2003, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Henry presented claims from the Finance Department for $107,998.40 and made a motion to approve, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. REQUESTS A. City Engineer Charles Greene requested acceptance of Section IX Meadow Park, off of 24th at "L" Street. The developer will post bond in the amount of'/ of the construction costs for a total of $13,333.50. The acceptance will be subject to review by the City Attorney. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. B. A grievance hearing was requested by Lt. Vince DeVito of the City of Richmond Fire Department. The Board members will decide on a date and it will be announced at the next meeting. C. Goodwin read a letter from Captain Don Ponder of the Department of Traffic Safety of the Richmond Police Department requesting a noise variance for the Community Connections Mental Health Association. There will be a band performing on the Kessler's Parking Lot at 10th and East Main Streets. The event will be held on August 17, 2003 from 5 to 9 p.m. in connection with a poker run fundraiser. Metzger moved to approve, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. D. Goodwin requested two reserved handicapped Parking spaces for Barbara and Richard Agee at 333 Pearl Street and Mary Miller at 14 North 12 h Street. Henry moved to approve, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. BID OPENING A. The following bids were opened for landscaping of right-of-ways: Rinehart Lawncare, U.S. 40 East $8,560, North U.S. 27 and "J" Street, $1,152; Brower and Gaar Nursery, U.S. 40 $11,537.80, North U.S. 27, $1,104.60; Pleasant View Nursery, U.S. 40 and U.S. 27, $9,540 and an additional $900 for watering and fertilizer. These bids will be reviewed and awarded at a later date. CURB CUTS A. Goodwin requested approval for two residential curb cuts, 1024 South 24th Street and 960 Breckenridge. Metzger moved to approve subject to conditions by Board of Pubic Works and Safety, second by Henry and the motion was carried on a voice vote. Board of Works Minutes Cont'd. August 14, 2003 Page 2 B. Goodwin requested approval for a commercial curb cut at the southwest corner of South 7th and South "A" Streets where an addition will be built on the back of a building at 107 South 7th Street. Henry moved to approve, second by Metzger and the motion was carried on a voice vote. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and passed, and carried on a voice vote, the meeting was adjourned.
