RESOLUTION NO. 16-9280
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER, CITY ATTORNEY AND THE HUMAN
RESOURCES DIRECTOR TO DEVELOP A FAIR HIRING
POLICY; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF
RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Ex-felons are often discriminated against in employment and
contracting opportunities; and
WHEREAS, These discriminatory practices often lead to recidivisms and
repeat offenses, and place an extraordinary burden on the City and society as a
whole; and
WHEREAS, The City believes that it is in the best interest of the City to
establish a policy that prohibits discrimination against ex-felon in employment
opportunities with the City; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE CITY
COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF OPA LOCAK, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida, hereby
directs the City Manager, City Attorney and Human Resources Director to develop a
fair hiring policy, and to bring back the same within 60 days from the date of the
adoption of this resolution.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of December, 2016.
