RESOLUTION NO. 16-9281
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY
ATTORNEY TO INVESTIGATE HOW THE CITY CAN
ALLOW EX-FELON TO VOTE IN CITY HELD ELECTIONS;
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Ex-felons under Florida law permit are not permitted to vote in
Federal or State elections until their civil rights are restored; and
WHEREAS, Ex-felons upon release become tax paying member of our
community and City and should be afforded the right and opportunity to
participate in City held elections; and
WHEREAS, The City believes that it is in the best interest of the City to
establish a policy that allows ex-felons the right to vote in City held elections.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE CITY
COMMISSION FOR THE CITY OF OPA LOCAK, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference.
Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka, Florida, hereby
directs the City Attorney to investigate how the City can allow ex-felons the right to
vote in City held elections.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
