SUBJECT: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION ACTIONS -MEETING OF
DECEMBER 21,2016
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council is requested to receive and file the Parks and Re creation Commission
actions from their meeting of De cembe r 21 , 2016 .
BACKGROUND:
On Decembe r 21 , 2016 , the Parks and Re creation Commission held their regularly
scheduled meeting .
ANALYSIS:
Following is a summary of actions tak en at the De cember 21 , 2016 Parks and
Recreation Commission meeting :
1 . ROLL CALL :
Present: Commissioner-Haddad , Rosso , Vance , Vice-Chairman Barold i,
Chairman Georgine
Absent: Commissioner -None
Excused: Commissioner -None
2. CONSENT CALENDAR
The Parks and Recreation Commission approved the minutes of the November
16, 2016 meeting and rece ived and fil ed the monthly report for November 2016 .

3 . UNFINISHED BUSINESS-None
4. NEW BUSINESS
A. APPEAL OF STAFF DECISION TO REMOVE A STONE PINE TREE
LOCATED AT 6333 ENCINITA AVENUE
Staff recommended removal of a Stone Pine tree due to hardscape damage
and structural defects within the tree. The Stone Pine tree has included bark
and codominant branching which can contribute to the failure of large limbs.
Staff recommended two new trees be planted in the public right of way at
6333 Encinita to replace the removed tree. On a 3-2 vote , the Commission
denied the appea l, upholding staffs decision to remove the tree .
5 . MATTERS FROM CITY OFFICIALS
A. The Commission received the Parks and Recreation Director's Report for
December 2016 . Acting Park Maintenance Leadworker Abel Andrade
provided an overview of recently completed, and upcoming , park projects to
the Commission.
CITY STRATEGIC GOALS:
Approval of the Commission actions of December 21 , 2016 furthers the City's Strategic
Goal of Citizen Education and Communication.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2016-17 City Budget.
