SUBJECT: TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION ACTIONS -
MEETING OF DECEMBER 14, 2016
RECOMMENDATION:
The Ci ty Council is req uested to receive and file the Transportation and Public Safety
Commission (Co mmiss ion) act io ns from their meeting of December 14, 2016 .
BACKGROUND:
On December 14, 2016 , the Commissio n held their regu larly scheduled meeting .
ANALYSIS:
Following is a summary of actions taken at the December 14, 20 16 , meeting :
1. ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioner-Clift, Redmond , Stratis , V ice Chairman Blatt,
Chairman Nimri
Absent: Commissioner-Non e
Excused: Commissioner -Non e
2 . CONSENT CALENDAR:
Th e Commission approved the minutes of their Nove mber 9 , 2016 meeting.
3. PARKING CITATION HEARINGS:

The Commissi on he ld five hearings in person . Two citations were upheld and three
citations were dismissed .
4 . NEW BUSINESS :
A. DI SC USSION OF TRAFFIC SAFETY CO NCERNS AT ENC INITA AVENUE AND
BROADWAY
The Commission reviewed the traffic collisio n data and concluded that no traffic
study was needed due to the lack of incidents at this location. The Commission
requested that the City provid e routine maintenance to the west facing curb on
the median, if necessary.
B. DISCUSSION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL MEASURES FOR MCCULLOC H
AVENUE AND DAINES DRIVE
The Transportation and Public Safety Comm ission approved the follow ing traffic
co ntrol measures for McCulloch Avenue and Dain es Drive and recommended
th eir approval by th e C ity Council :
a) In stall pedestrian signage at th e crosswalk on Da ines Drive ;
b) Keep existing DIP signs and pavement markers near the intersection ;
c) In stall 20 foot red curb marki ng s on Dain es Drive on the west side of the
intersection ;
d) Repaint existing crosswa lk wi th white ladder strip ing and outline in white raised
pavement marke rs for nighttime visibility ;
e) Post a 30 mph speed limit s ign on Daines Dri ve , east of El Monte Avenue for
eastbo und traffi c; and
f) Direct the City to exp lo re the possibility of adding a street light directly above
the existi ng crosswalk to illuminate it for pedestrians .
CITY STRATEGIC GOALS :
Reporting the Transportation and Public Safety Commission Actions of December 14,
2016 , furthers the City's Strategic Goal of Citizen Ed ucation and Communication .
FISCAL IMPACT:
This item does not have an impact on th e Fiscal Year 2016-17 City Budget.
