RIP. SOLUTION ADOI'TING A CODE OF I/ESPONSIBLE CONDUCT FOR
(;UN MANUFACTUREI*,S '~VISHING TO TRANSACT 'WITH THE
BOROUGH OF CARTERET
WIIEREAS, tile Mayor and Council of tile Borough of Cartcrct believes that gun
violence, which annually results ill thc death of 30,000 people and the mjnry of an
additional $100.000 poses a severe threat to thc safety and welfare of the
community; and
WIIEREAS, thc Mayor and Council wish to assist in the fight to curb gun
violence by rcquMng manufacturers that seek to sell weapons to the Borough,
comply with a code of responsible conduct, (a copy of which is attached), which
wit1 make it hurdcr for children to fire guns accidentally und for criminals to
acquire guns through gun runners, straw purchasers and other means;
NOW, TIIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by thc Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Cartcrct that there is adopted tile attached code of' responsible conduct
for gun manufacturers seeking to cio business with the Borough of Cartcrct (the
"Borough")
BE IT FURTIIER RESOLVED that a copy of thc attached Code of Responsible
Conduct, be included in all bid specification packages for the purchase of
weapons by the Borough and thut bidders who refuse to execute the Code of
Responsible Conduct or who full to comply after execoting, be excluded from
consideration as a vendor to the Borough.
BE IT I;URTIIER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to Senator
Joseph Vitalc, Assemblywoman Arlene Friscia and Assemblyman John
Wisnicwski. to urge them to acknowledge suport of Senate Bill S 1223,
introduced by Senator Vitale and urge them to take a strong leadership position in
favor of Gun Control Legislation, which reduces gun violence.
