Councilmen Green, Morris, Rowe and Higgins answered the roll call. Councilman Byork was absent. Alsq present were City Attorney Murphy and City Manger Valliere. It Was moved by Councilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Green, and carried, that Councilman Byox~k's absence be excused. It was moved by Counc~lrnan Morris, seconded by Councilman Green, anl~ carried, that minutes of ad- jou~ned regular meeting of September 19, 1978 and regular meeting of September 19, 1978 be approved as written. PROCLAMATIONS CouMCil designated the week of October 8-14, 1978 Proclamation- as "Fire Prevention Week. " It was moved by Coun- "Fire Prev. Wk." cilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Green, and carried, that the proclamation be authorized. Council designated the week of October 1-7, 1978 Proclamation- as "Respect Life Week" and the Mayor presented the "Respect Life Wk." proclamation to Sister Anna Marie, St. Francis Medical Center. CITY CLERK'S AGENDA Application from U. S. Volleyball Association for U.S. Volleyball permission to solicit funds from October 1, 1978 to Assn appl.tabled September 30, 1979 was presented. Mr. Greg Saupders, 12423 Madison Avenue, Los Angeles, Diree- tor of Program for Southern California U. S. Volley- ball Association, discussed the organization's goals and methods of fund-raising. It was moved by Councilman Morris, seconded by Mayor Higgins, that Coupcil approve request to conduct fund-raising for the period of time requeat~s~. After discussion of tax exempt status of the organization, the proposed distribution of funds solfeited, and the period of time requested for solicitation, Councilman Morris wiithdrew his motion and Mayor Higgins withdrew his ~~cond.
