A meeting of the Town Commissioners of the Town of Gulf
Stream, Florida, was held at the Town Hall of said town on the 3rd day
of April, 1926.
The following commissioners were present: Charles H.
Ruggles, Mayor, Frank I. Swanson, Vice- Mayor, and Phil Y. Cason, Town
Clerk. The following ordinance relating to election was presented to
the Commission, and on motion by Mr. Swanson, seconded by Mr. Ruggles,
the same was read the first time in full, as follows:
AND ORDINANCE OF TIE TO "Z OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA,
PROVIDING FOR THE HOLDING OF AN ANNUAL ELECTION,
THE QUALIFICATION AND REGISTRATION OF VOTERS, AND
THE QUALIFICATION OF PERSONS TO HOLD OFFICE AT SAID
ELECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COP:MISSION OF TIE TOWN OF GUFF STREAM,
FLORIDA:
SECTION I. A general election of the Town officers shall be held
in the Town of Gulf Stream, on the first Tuesday in April, A. D. 1926,
and on the same date every year thereafter, at which time all officers
elected under the Town Charter shall be elected to their respective of-
fices.
SECTION II. That at said election there shall be elected a
Mayor, a Vice -Mayor and Town Clerk, who shall each be ex officio a Com-
missioner of said Town, and who shall serve when elected until their suc-
cessors are regularly elected and qualified in said election. The candi-
dates receiving the highest number of votes shall hold office for the
term of one (1) year, or until their successors are regularly elected and
aualified.
SECTION III. Any person who shall possess the qualifications
requisite to an election at said general election shall have resided in
the Town of Gulf Stream six (6) months next preceding the election, and
shall have been registered in the registration books of the Town thirty
(30) days prior to the holding of said election, and shall be a quali-
fied elector and free holder of said Town, and a citizen of the State
of Florida. All elections shall be held and conducted in accordance
with the provisions of Chapter , Laws of Florida, providing for the
holding of the regular elections of said State as nearly as practicable,
provided that the Town Commission shall perform all acts in relation to
such general and special elections, which by the State law, is made the
duty of the County Commissioners. Provided that no person under guar-
dianship, idiotic or insane, convicted of a felony, nor any person con-
victed of bribery, perjury or larceny, or of any infamous crime, or being
interested in any bet or wager, the result of which shall depend upon
any election; or of fighting a duel, or of sending or knowingly carrying
or accepting a challenge to fight a duel; or being a second to either
party to a duel, and not restored to civil rights, shall be qualified to
vote at any such election. The polling place for all general and special
elections of the Town of Gulf Stream shall be at the Town Hall, unless
otherwise provided for, and the Town Commission shall appoint and desig-
nate one (1) inspector and one (1) clerk of election to conduct said
election, who shall certify the names of such.
And the Clerk will notify the persons so named of their appoint-
ment, As soon as a general or special election has been called by the
Town Commission, a notice of the holding of said election shall be issued,
giving notice that said election is to be held in the Town of Gulf Stream,
which notice shall contain: List of the officers to be voted for and
the other questions to be voted upon, the place of voting, the time for
opening and closing the polls, and the named of the inspector and Clerk
of election to conduct said election; and such notice shall be published
by posting a copy of the same at the door of the Town Hall at least thirty
(30) days prior to the holding of such general or special election or by
publishing a copy of said notice in a newspaper published in Palm Beach
County, Florida, four (4) consecutive weeks prior to the holding of said
election.
SECTION IV. The said inspector and Clerk of election shall,
immediately upon the closing of the polls, proceed to count the votes
cast at said election for each office and each question voted upon and
make out duplicate lists with the number of votes cast for each, and
certify to the correctness of such duplicate lists, and one of said
certified lists, under seal, to be handed by the inspector to the Mayor
of the Town of Gulf Stream the day following the day upon which said
election was held.
SECTION V. The Town Commission shall not meet later than the
first Monday after any general or special election held in the Town of
Gulf Stream or so soon as practicable, for the purpose of canvassing
said returns and certifying the result of said election and installing
new officers, whom they shall declare elected, at which time the new
officers so installed shall enter upon and discharge their duties as
soon as they qualify, as provided by the Town Charter.
SECTION VI. It shall be the duty of the Town Clerk to open
a registration book for the purpose of allowing the qualified electors
of the Town of Gulf Stream to register therein, said registration book
to be opened on the first day of January of each year, and shall remain
open until the 15th day of April. And said Town Clerk, is hereby em-
powered and required to question all persons desiring to register, to
take oath that he or she is a qualified elector and citizen of the Town
of Gulf Stream, and entitled to register under the Town Charter and Laws
of Florida as a qualified elector oi` the Town of Gulf Stream, and no per-
son shall be allowed to register without taking such oath.
SECTION VII. It shall be the duty of the Town Commission of
the Town of Gull' Stream to hold a meeting on the first Saturday in
January of each year to examine and revise the list of registered voters
of the Town of Gulf Stream, and erase therefrom the names of such as may
have died or who are otherwise disqualified to vote. Such examinations
and revisions shall be completed as soon as practicable, and immediately
thereafter the Town Commission shall cause a copy of the same to be posted
at the door of the Town Hall. Any person whose name may have improperly
srased or stricken from the list of registered voters, may have the same
restored upon making the fact that it was improperly struck appear to the
satisfaction of the Commission at its regular meeting on the First Satur-
Say in February.

SECTION I. That there shall be held in the Town Hall of
the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida, as required in Article 1, Section 4,
of the Town Charter, a regular meeting on the third Saturday of each and
every month heaeafter, at 7 :30 o'clock P. M.
