Subject: Federal Community Project Funding Request (FY2022)

The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to provide notice of today's submission of an
application to Congresswoman Wasserman -Schultz' office for the request of federal
funding. The Village is requesting Community Project Funding in the amount of
$4,000,000 for the Jetty/Cutwalk/96th Street Plaza Restoration Project.
The Village has been coordinating with the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) over the past
year to prepare permits for the Project. In addition, we coordinated with the Corp for the
FY 2020 Appropriation Request via the Congresswoman but the committee
recommended that the Village submit the Community Project Funding request (Earmark).
On August 31, 2020, under Resolution No. R-830-20, the Miami -Dade County Board of
County Commissioners approved significant modifications to our Building Better
Communities General Obligation Bond Program (GOB) and authorized the use of
$7,500,000 of County bond funds toward the estimated cost of $14,900,000 for the South
Jetty renovations alone. On November 18, 2020, the Village entered into an Interlocal
Agreement with Miami Dade County that defines the requirements for the use of the GOB
funding for Jetty project.
The Village is very appreciative to have the support of the County Mayor, Daniella Levine
Cava and the staff of the Department of Environmental Resource Management (DERM), in
this initiative, the Federal Community Project Funding Request under the FY2022. We feel
that the Village may be successful since the Jetty Project has a major regional impact for
both the community and visitors to the area.
