SUBJECT: Bal Harbour Police Department - FDOT Northeast Community Traffic Safety
Program Event
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to share information with you on an upcoming
traffic safety event in Bal Harbour Village.
The Bal Harbour Police Department, Town of Surfside Police Department and Sunny Isles
Beach Police Department in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation
(FDOT) District Six, through their NE Community Traffic Safety Team program will conduct
a multi -agency traffic safety enforcement and educational detail on Wednesday, April 14th,
from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event will focus on the Town of Surfside and Bal Harbour
Village from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and in Sunny Isles Beach from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Law enforcement will be focusing primarily on aggressive and distracted driving as part of
the "Put It Down" Campaign. The officers will also address red-light enforcement,
speeding, seatbelt usage, move -over law compliance, cyclist/pedestrian safety and
general traffic safety. Educational materials will be provided by FDOT to all participating
law enforcement personnel to distribute during the operation.
The participating agencies thus far are Town of Surfside, Bay Harbor Islands, Sunny Isles
Beach and Miami -Dade County Intracoastal District.
