The officers stopped a pontoon-style vessel and warned its occupants not to trespass on the island of Indian Creek. Marine Units and a Good Samaritan vessel helped a swimmer who was stranded on the Haulover Inlet. The swimmer refused medical attention and was transported to the Haulover Marina. Be ach Saf e t y D et ai l : Officers patrolling the Jetty area discovered graffiti on the “Danger Jetty” sign attached to the lighthouse. An alert notice was issued to all patrol personnel and Public Works was notified so the graffiti could be promptly removed. The Beach Safety Officer met with management at the Ritz Carlton after receiving a complaint of garbage on the beach. Hotel staff were reminded to monitor the area for garbage. A follow-up investigation revealed hotel personnel actively cleaning the beach. The Beach Safety Officer met with fishermen on the jetty to ensure all were aware of fishing rules and the need to police their fishing spots. Follow-up visits confirmed the fishermen were cooperating. The sea turtle nests were checked regularly to ensure they were properly cordoned off and protected. 0 6 -1 9 -2 0 2 1 Par k i n g Vi o l at i o n N o r t h M u n i ci p al Lo t Handicap parking spaces are marked for the benefit of persons with disabilities. Officers patrol Village parking areas to ensure persons do not abuse special parking privileges. Officers discovered a driver using an expired handicap permit assigned to an other person to park in a reserved space in the North Lot. The driver was cited for unlawful use of a handicap permit and seized the expired permit to prevent future parking violations. 0 6 -2 1 -2 0 2 1 Th e f t 9 7 0 0 Co l l i n s A v e n u e A retailer at the Bal Harbour Shops reported a theft of items valued at approximately $10,000. The store reported a group of suspects entered the store and collected various articles of clothing and left the store. The group’s activities were captured on video . The Criminal Investigation Divisions is conducting a follow-up investigation. 0 6 -2 3 -2 0 2 1 Th e f t f r o m Ve h i cl e 9 7 0 0 Co l l i n s A v e n u e Officers were summoned to the Bal Harbour Shops parking garage regarding a theft. Victim alleges someone removed a jacket and a pair of sunglasses from the vehicle. Officers investigating the case noted no signs of forced entry and the shopper could not recall if the vehicle was left locked. 0 6 -2 4 -2 0 2 1 A ssi st O t h e r A g e n cy To w n o f Su r f si d e The town of Surfside received numerous calls of a building collapsing on the 8700 block of Collins Avenue. Bal Harbour officers responded to the scene and assisted first responders with rescue and crime scene management. Additionally, Bal Habour officers assisted with the management of the Family Re-unification Center and implemented the family tracking database.
