Gonzalez, Village Manage or Date: August 27, 2021 % Subject: Florida Department of Environmen al Protection (FDEP) Grant Award The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to provide notice of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP) anticipated grant award announcement for the Village Waterfront Park Renovation and Resilience Project in the award amount of $479,760. The Florida Resilient Coastlines Program (FRCP), under the FDEP, provides financial assistance aimed at preparing coastal communities for current and future effects of rising sea levels, including coastal flooding, erosion and ecosystem changes. The Village applied to the FRCP's Resilience Implementation Grant (RIG) on October 9, 2020. RIG grants are available to Florida communities that are required to have a coastal management element in their comprehensive plan. The purpose of a RIG is to assist coastal communities in implementing their adaptation/resilience plans by supporting nature -based options for erosion and flood control, elevating public structures, and projects specifically included in existing adaptation/resilience plans. On April 30, 2021, the FDEP notified the Village of the anticipated award, however, did not confirm the amount of the grant as they are pending confirmation of available funds based on the approved state budget to be signed by Florida's Governor. This was a very competitive grant cycle with limited funding available. On August 17, 2021, FDEP confirmed the grant award amount and sent out the project grant agreement for the Village to execute. Once FDEP executes the agreement, the project may commence. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to call Mattie Reyes or me directly.
