Any new nest is promptly identified and cordoned off. A drone operator was instructed to land his drone after the BSO observed him flying the aircraft in violation of FAA regulations. The drone operator complied and the BSO informed him of the FAA prohibitions regarding drones. The BSO continues to monitor the beach for dogs. They encountered two individuals with dogs on the beach against Village Code. The dogs were promptly removed from the beach. The BSO assisted Surfside Police with a disabled vessel in the swim zone area. Officers remained on the scene until the vessel was safely removed. BSO effected a traffic stop of an unauthorized vehicle on the hardpack. A records check revealed the driver had a criminal past and an out-of-state arrest warrant. The warrant had a non-extradition clause and was not enforceable. The driver was escorted off the hardpack and monitored as he drove away from Bal Harbour Village. The BSO continues to monitor fishermen on the jetty ensuring they are properly licensed and in compliance with Village codes. 0 8 /2 7 /2 0 2 1 A r r est 9 7 0 0 Co l l i n s A v e n u e The Wolford store manager told officers a female subject took merchandise and exited the store. A description of the subject was broadcasted over police radio, officers located the subject a short time later. A fter a brief chase on foot the subject was detained behind the 9920 Collins Avenue building. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to jail. 0 8 /2 8 /2 0 2 1 A r r e st W ar r an t 1 0 2 0 0 b l k Co l l i n s A v e n u e While conducting traffic enforcement on the Collins Avenue corridor, officers initiated a traffic on a vehicle for unlawful speeding. A computer inquiry of the driver revealed an active arrest warrant. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to jail. 0 8 /2 8 /2 0 2 1 Th e f t 9 8 0 1 Co l l i n s A v e n u e The victim told officers he parked and locked his bicycle to the bicycle rack at the rear of the building. Upon returning to rack, he discovered his bicycle was missing and the cable had been cut. There are no security cameras in the area that would have captured the incident . This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further follow-up. 0 9 /0 1 /2 0 2 1 Bak e r A ct 1 Har b o u r W ay Officers observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way along Harbour Way West and conducted a traffic stop. The driver became extremely irate and berated officers. Officers became concerned about the mental health of the driver as her behavior grew more erratic. The driver was subsequently transported to the hospital for treatment and further evaluation under the Baker Act provisions. 0 9 /0 2 /2 0 2 1 Tr af f i c Cr ash 9 7 0 0 Bl o ck o f Co l l i n s A v e A motorist lost control of his vehicle and collided with a street sign and Village landscaping. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol or mood-altering drugs. No injuries or other damages were reported. Public Works was notified of the property damages. 0 9 /0 2 /2 0 2 1 Co m m u n i t y Ev e n t H ar d p ack The police department assisted the Hebrew Academy in their annual Student 5K run along the hardpack. Officers assisted event coordinators by securing parking areas in the North Lot and providing police presence along the hardpack for student safety.
