Summary of Activities and Events
Code Enforcement
Sunday and the Rosh Hashanah Holidays resulted in four days of no -work activities in the Village. The
Code Enforcement Unit reported properties were in compliance with landscaping requirements. Code
Officers worked with the Village guardhouse to enforce the no commercial activity restriction and
verified any emergency exemptions.
Code Enforcement Officers were alerted by Bal Harbour Marine Units of runoff from a construction site
spilling into the Intercoastal Waterways. Code Officers used photographs and information from the
Marine Officer to confirm a violation of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System protocols
(NPDES). Since the site debris spilled into the waterways, it was deemed as irreparable/irreplaceable
damage. The property owner was cited with the NPDES violation and directed to immediately remedy
the deficiency.
Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) conducted follow-up investigations into several retail theft
cases at the Bal Harbour Shops. Need -to -Identify flyers were prepared in cases where video footage
captured images of the suspects involved in the theft. The flyers were distributed to other police
agencies in an effort to generate leads.
The CID is investigating a residential break-in possibly related to a recent seizure of drugs incident. The
drugs and two suspected undocumented aliens were seized early in the week after a marine patrol
interdiction. Detectives believe the suspects who broke into a Village residence were the same suspects
who eluded capture after grounding their boat by the seawall. Detectives are working with Homeland
Security, Custom and Border Patrol, Miami -Dade County, Miami Beach, and other agencies to identify
the suspects.
The CID assisted the Building Department by conducting a pre -employment background investigation
of a prospective hire. Background investigations are conducted to ensure candidates meet Village hiring
requirements.
