DATE: October 1, 2021
SUBJECT: Status Update on FIND Grant Application for Police Marine Vessel Engines
Mayor Gabriel Groisman and Members of the Village Council
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to provide you a status update on the FIND
grant application for the replacement of the Bal Harbour Police Department marine vessel
engines.
As you may recall, at the March 16, 2021 Council Meeting, the Bal Harbour Police
Department requested approval to apply for grant opportunities through the Florida
Inland Navigation District's Waterways Assistance Program in order to help defer the costs
associated with the replacement of the marine vessel engines. Upon approval, BHPD
submitted the application by the March 29, 2021 deadline for a $30,000 grant award,
which also requires a 50% matching funds in the amount of $30,000, which will be funded
through police vehicle maintenance fund.
On June 18, 2021, Captain Escarra traveled to Cocoa Beach, Florida to present the
Village's grant application at the FIND Commission Meeting. I am happy to report that out
of the original 51 applications received by the FIND Commission in March, 42 projects
were awarded funding through FIND's Assistance Program, including the Bal Harbour
Police Department.
The acceptance of the grant funds, as well as the appropriation of the funds for
expenditure, will be included on the October 19, 2021 Council Agenda for your
consideration.
