Detectives began the backgrounds for three police applicants and a Village accounting clerk. Background investigations are used to ensure all new hires meet Village and State standards. The CID is conducting the second portion of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Bloodborne Pathogen (BP)training for the police department. This portion of the training is conducted as a practicum to allow officers and civilian employees the ability to demonstrated proficiency in the CPR techniques and BP mitigation. The training is required for state certification. Marine Patrol / Beach Safety Officer Details Stops Citations Warnings Arrests Reports AOA Contacts 08 01 06 00 00 00 87 Remarks Marine Patrol: Marine Patrol conducted late night waterway sandbar noise/loud music mitigation patrols December 03 through 05, 2021. No violations were encountered. Our marine patrol officers also assisted other agencies who are investigating the recent vessel burglaries affecting the north end of Biscayne Bay. Marine patrol also assisted patrol field operations daily as the department members conduct in-service training. Marine patrol conducted daily patrols along the coastline and the bay side waters surrounding Bal Harbour. Marine Patrol officers responded to an emergency distress call of a vessel taking on water just east of the Haulover Inlet in the Atlantic Ocean side. Upon arriving a Boat Tow service was on the scene assisting the vessel. Bal Harbour marine patrol remained on scene until the vessel was towed away from the area. No injuries were reported. Marine Units stopped an unregistered vessel approximately 300 yards east of the Haulover Inlet. As the captain of the offending vessel attempted to stop, he inadvertently placed the vessel in reverse and struck the Bal Harbour Police boat. The Bal Harbour Vessel suffered minor damage to its starboard side of the hull. No one was injured in the collision. Beach Safety Officer: BSO conducted an early morning area canvass/check of the Bal Harbour Marina on December 3rd, in light of multiple burglaries to several vessels at Indian Creek and North Miami Beach overnight. BSO conducted a review of surveillance footage, but there was no indication of criminal activity over night. Nevertheless, the BSO conducted a foot patrol of the area and spoke with several yacht/boat occupants who stated that they did not see any suspicious activity the night before. This weekend, the BSO encountered a total of six separate individuals walking their dog on the jogging path. All individuals stated that they did not know walking their dog in that particular path was not allowed. The BSO directed them to the appropriate area and did not encounter any further incidents. BSO conducted parking enforcement at the North Municipal Parking Lot throughout the weekend and wrote multiple parking citations. The BSO provided first aid to a juvenile male that slipped while walking on the jetty and also provided first aid to a beach goer that was stung by a jelly fish. On both occasions, Miami Dade Fire Department was refused. This weekend, the BSO encountered a total of two dogs on the beach and one dog without a leash. Lastly, the BSO worked a special detail on the Marine Patrol boat in reference to noise complaints the evening of Sunday, December 5th. Dogs without a leash (1) Dogs on the Beach (2) Dogs walked on jogging path (6) Summary of Noteworthy Calls for Service 12/03/2021 Hazardous Condition Indian Creek Bridge The reporter, a Bay Harbour Islands resident, advised that she walking westbound on the northside sidewalk along the Bal Harbour West Park. The reported stated her walker wheels got stuck on the side walk which is uneven, causing her to fall over her walker. The reporter refused fire rescue and advised that she was not injured. Public Works supervisors were notified and photos of the area were taken and attached to the report. 12/05/2021 School Threat Publix 9400 Harding Avenue Bal Harbour police received information from a resident who overheard a Publix employee talking about a possible school threat. Bal Harbour supervisors contacted Miami Dade County Schools Board Police and other area agencies regarding the threat. The investigation revealed that the information had been received earlier in the week and the agencies were actively following leads. 12/06/2021 Disturbance 10200 Block of Collins Ave Police officers responded to a disturbance at a beach side condominium involving two residents. The incident appears to be a recurring neighbor dispute. The parties engaged in a verbal dispute, but committed no crime. 12/06/2021 Disturbance / Trespass Warning 9700 Collins Avenue Bal Harbour police officers were dispatched to a disturbance/argument at the Bal Harbour Shops. The incident involved Shops security and a store employee. The store employee was arguing about the policy of having to park off site. The parties were not able to resolve the issue which resulted in the employee being issued a trespass warning by a Shops security supervisor. The employee left without further incident. 12/06/2021 Assist Other Agency 1700 Block Broad Causeway A Bal Harbour police officer observed a female laying on the sidewalk who appeared to be injured. The female had fallen off her electric bicycle. The officer requested fire rescue and Bay Harbor Islands officers to respond and cleared after they arrived. 12/07/2021 Water Main Break / Surfside 300 block 96 Street While on routine patrol, a Bal Harbour police officer discovered a water leak on the street. The Town of Surfside police was notified the leak appeared to be in their jurisdiction. Bal Harbour assisted by directing traffic while repairs were conducted. 12/07/2021 Disturbance 10200 Block of Collins Ave Two contractors for a beachside condominium became involved in a dispute with staff and were ordered to leave the property. When the contractors refused to leave, police were called to the scene. Once officers arrived, the contractors left without further incident. The condo staff warned the contractors not to return to the property. Officers issued a trespass warning and resolved the incident without further action. 12/07/2021 Theft 9900 Block of Collins Ave A resident of a beachside condominium returned home and discovered jewelry missing from her safe. The victim believes someone may have taken the jewelry from the safe. However, the victim was the only person with the safe's combination and the safe did not appear to be forced open. The case will be investigated to determine if a theft occurred or if the items were misplaced. 12/08/2021 Bench Warrant 10100 Block Collins Avenue A Bal Harbour police officer conducted a traffic stop on Collins Avenue. As the officers investigated further, they discovered the driver had an open bench warrant related to other traffic offenses. The driver was arrested and transported to jail without incident. 12/09/2021 Assist a Citizen 271 Bal Cross Drive Bal Harbour police responded to a home inside the gated community regarding a missing three -year - old girl. All on duty officers responded and assisted in searching for the child. Within a couple of minutes, the on -duty police sergeant located the child next door playing in an outdoor play kitchen.
