Remarks
Marine Patrol:
Marine Patrol conducted late night waterway sandbar noise/loud music mitigation patrols December 03
through 05, 2021. No violations were encountered. Our marine patrol officers also assisted other
agencies who are investigating the recent vessel burglaries affecting the north end of Biscayne Bay.
Marine patrol also assisted patrol field operations daily as the department members conduct in-service
training. Marine patrol conducted daily patrols along the coastline and the bay side waters surrounding
Bal Harbour.
Marine Patrol officers responded to an emergency distress call of a vessel taking on water just east of the
Haulover Inlet in the Atlantic Ocean side. Upon arriving a Boat Tow service was on the scene assisting
the vessel. Bal Harbour marine patrol remained on scene until the vessel was towed away from the area.
No injuries were reported.
Marine Units stopped an unregistered vessel approximately 300 yards east of the Haulover Inlet. As the
captain of the offending vessel attempted to stop, he inadvertently placed the vessel in reverse and
struck the Bal Harbour Police boat. The Bal Harbour Vessel suffered minor damage to its starboard side
of the hull. No one was injured in the collision.
Beach Safety Officer:
BSO conducted an early morning area canvass/check of the Bal Harbour Marina on December 3rd, in
light of multiple burglaries to several vessels at Indian Creek and North Miami Beach overnight. BSO
conducted a review of surveillance footage, but there was no indication of criminal activity over night.
Nevertheless, the BSO conducted a foot patrol of the area and spoke with several yacht/boat
occupants who stated that they did not see any suspicious activity the night before.
This weekend, the BSO encountered a total of six separate individuals walking their dog on the jogging
path. All individuals stated that they did not know walking their dog in that particular path was not
allowed. The BSO directed them to the appropriate area and did not encounter any further incidents.
BSO conducted parking enforcement at the North Municipal Parking Lot throughout the weekend and
wrote multiple parking citations. The BSO provided first aid to a juvenile male that slipped while
walking on the jetty and also provided first aid to a beach goer that was stung by a jelly fish. On both
occasions, Miami Dade Fire Department was refused.
This weekend, the BSO encountered a total of two dogs on the beach and one dog without a leash.
Lastly, the BSO worked a special detail on the Marine Patrol boat in reference to noise complaints the
evening of Sunday, December 5th.
