Subject: Bal Harbour Police Department V ekly Report for the period of
January 21, 2022 through January 27, 2022
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to transmit to you a Weekly Report from the Bal
Harbour Police Department that I requested in order to enhance the flow of communication
and transparency.

Marine Patrol officers responded to a radio call of a vessel tied to the seawall next to 202 Bal Bay Drive.
The Vessel in question was anchored off of the seawall and the middle age male and female occupant
were engaged in fishing. Casual contact was made and no suspicious activity was observed.
Marine Patrol officers have extended their evening patrols of the intercoastal waterways, the evening
patrols focus on maritime enforcement and high visibility patrols.
Marine Patrol assisted Miami-Dade Marine Patrol Divers with an article search for a firearm under the
Indian Creek Bridge. Search results were negative.
Marine Patrol officers conducted bike patrols in the gated community and also assisted with traffic
enforcement in the early morning hours.
On Friday, the BSO conducted bicycle patrol on the beach hardpack and provided an additional method
of enhanced patrol by also conducting bicycle patrol inside in the gated community. The BSO assisted
with the repositioning of a decoy vehicle inside the gated community and continued to conduct frequent
checks of the area.
Later in the day, the BSO assisted a fellow officer who advised a vehicle was refusing to stop as he tried
to conduct a traffic stop for an expired tag. The individuals were later captured by Sunny Isles Police
Department officers and the BSO responded in order to assist the primary officer. The BSO took custody
of two of the four individuals involved and separately interviewed both.
On Saturday evening, the BSO worked a special detail which involved frequent area checks of the seawall
and rear of properties as part of enhanced patrol efforts by the Marine Patrol Unit.
This weekend the BSO spoke to seven fishermen about the ordinance prohibiting single use plastics on
the jetty. The BSO also conducted traffic enforcement and encountered two dogs on the beach and
three bicyclists on the jogging path. The BSO was assisted by Code Enforcement throughout the
weekend in order to address dogs on the beach. On Monday, the BSO and Code Enforcement walked
the entire beach and hardpack area in order to further address code violations. Three dogs were found
on the beach and one individual was observed on the jetty in possession of a single use plastic (plastic
bag).

Theft
9700 Collins Avenue
Balenciaga associates told officers a male arrived at the front of the store on a bicycle. The male then
entered the store, retrieved merchandise from the display shelf, concealed the merchandise, and fled
the area on his bicycle. A canvass of the area was conducted; however, the subject was not located.
This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further follow-up.

Theft

An unknown female entered Neiman Marcus and began loitering around the perfume display. The
female was captured on store security cameras concealing several bottles of perfume and exiting the
store without paying. This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further
follow-uo.

Theft
9700 Collins Avenue
Officers received reports of thefts that occurred in multiple stores. Store associates provided
descriptions of four males that were captured on security cameras committing the thefts. While
conducting an area canvass, officers located one of the subjects who immediately fled, however, was
apprehended by Bal Harbour officers. A multi -agency search for the remaining such was conducted,
however, the other three subjects were not located. This case has been forwarded to the Criminal
Investigations Division for further follow-up.

Fraud
9700 Collins Avenue
Saks Fifth Avenue asset protection associates told officers they were detaining an employee; an internal
investigation revealed the employee was engaging in fraud and criminal activity. Officers discovered
the employee defrauded Saks Fifth Avenue of nearly one million dollars over the course of four years.
The subject was arrested and transported to jail.

Suspicious Person
10275 Collins Avenue
Bellini personnel reported a suspicious male on the property. Bal Harbour officers immediately
responded and began an extensive area canvass of the property. Video surveillance footage indicated
that the individual was last seen heading toward the hardpack/beach area. Officers also checked the
hardpack, beach, jetty and North Lot; however, the subject was not located.

Traffic Crash / Arrest
9800 Collins Avenue
While on patrol, Bal Harbour officers discovered a traffic crash that had just occurred. A routine history
check revealed one of the parties was operating a vehicle with a suspended driver's license. The driver
with the suspended license was arrested and released on a Promise To Appear in Court.

Traffic / Warrant Arrest
10200 Block Collins Avenue
While conducting Radar Traffic Enforcement, a Bal Harbour officer initiated a traffic stop for a speed
violation. A routine history check revealed the driver had an active arrest warrant and was operating a
vehicle with a suspended & cancelled driver's license. The driver was arrested and transported to jail.
