Subject: Bal Harbour Beach Nourishment Prject Update
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to provide you with an update related to the
ongoing United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Beach Nourishment Project
along Bal Harbour Beach.
Mayor Gabriel Groisman and Members of the Village Council
The Beach Nourishment Project commenced this week with the dredging operations
expected to be completed within the next six (6) weeks. The truck hauling portion of the
Project is anticipated to begin immediately after completion of the dredging operations.
At this time, the Project completion date remains June 21, 2022.
During the placement of the beach sand, USACE conducts weekly progress meetings with
the contractor and Village staff is also participating. During the Thursday January 27, 2022
meeting, the anticipated work schedule for the entire Project was presented in map form.
The diagram map identifies the survey posts which designate the portion of the beach
receiving the sand by date and volume to be placed at each surveyed area. As of today,
the sand placement which started at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, has reached the southern
portion of the Harbor House property.
In order to simplify the technical information contained within the map provided by
USACE, the details on the next page provide the general locations of the ongoing and
future planned work in correlation to the adjacent Oceanfront Condominium, with
expected impact time period for each building over the course of the next three (3) weeks.
This information will be updated for each three (3) week period until the project is
complete. The original map is also attached for your review.
