FDOT Project Fact Sheet for State Rd Al A/Collins Avenue from Harbour
Way West to Frontage Road
The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to share the project fact sheet provided by
the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for an upcoming project on Collins
Avenue from Harbour Way West to Frontage Road.
In January 2020, Chief Flowers and Captain Escarra attended an FDOT Scoping
Committee meeting, in which future projects are considered. Chief Flowers addressed
several issues relating to pedestrian crosswalks, including those on Frontage Road near
the Haulover Bridge. As a result of this meeting, the Scoping Committee decided to
proceed with design and funding of a project in this area.
This project is currently in the design phase and is scheduled to commence in May 2023,
with an estimated project cost of $1.4 million. This project will include the following
improvements:
• Repaving and restriping the roadway
• Reducing the width of Frontage Road
• Installing raised crosswalks
• Upgrading the sign to include rectangular rapid flashing beacons
• Replacing pavement markings and sidewalk
Bal Harbour Police and Public Works staff will continue to engage with FDOT during the
final design phase and through construction.
Attached for your information is the Project Fact Sheet being distributed by FDOT
throughout the community.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Chief Flowers at 305.866.5000.
