Gonzalez, Village Manage ' Letter from Miami -Dade County Fire Chief Alan Cominsky The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to share correspondence from Miami -Dade County Fire Chief Alan Cominsky regarding inquiries made during his presentation at the March 15, 2022 Bal Harbour Village Council Meeting. The attached letter is a response to Vice Mayor Salver's inquiry regarding Miami -Dade County Rescue's response times while addressing incidents within Bal Harbour Village. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me or Chief Flowers at 305- 866-5000. JMG/RMF/ME/DM 'N1110'• Always Ready, Proud To Serve March 21, 2022 Honorable Gabriel Groisman, Mayor Bal Harbour Village 655 — 96th Street Bal Harbour, FL 33154 Honorable Mayor Groisman: Miami -Dade Fire Rescue Department 9300 NW 41st Street Dural, Florida 33178-2414 T 786-331-5000 F 786-331-5101 miamidade.gov In response to Councilman Salver's inquiries at Tuesday night's Council meeting, I offer the following information. As depicted in Table I of the attachment, there was a thirty-four percent increase, from 580 to 780, in the number of incidents Miami -Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded to in the Village from calendar 2020 to 2021. A number of factors impacted response times to the Village in 2021, including the prolonged street closures on Collins Avenue from 85th to 92nd streets and Harding Avenue from 85th to 90th streets and increased traffic to the area due the tragic collapse of the Champlain Towers as well as a six percent change in the units responding to the Village as presented in Table II, and MDFR's categorization of "Other" emergency incidents to either "Life Threatening" or "Non -Life Threatening." While response times are within the recommended National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards, MDFR strives to deliver the best fire -rescue services to the Village and will continue to monitor incident volume and response times to the area to ensure standards are consistently met. If call volume and response times continue to rise, MDFR will conduct a needs assessment regarding any possible service adjustments. I trust this addresses Councilman Salver's concerns. Again, MDFR is privileged and honored to serve as your fire -rescue department. MDFR's overall complement of front-line response apparatus and personnel provides a depth of service unparalleled in the Southeast United States for the benefit and protection of your community. I always welcome the opportunity to address any additional questions or concerns that you, the Village Council, Manager, or residents may have regarding our services. Respectfully, Alan R.
