Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is investigating the theft of a safe from a beachside
condominium. The victim reported a small, personal safe was missing from his bedroom closet.
Preliminary investigation revealed the apartment door was not properly secured. Detectives are working
with the building security personnel to gather available videos in an effort to develop investigative leads.
The CID is working with security from a second beachside condominium to determine who may have
taken a tool box from a vehicle parked on the premises. The victim parked the vehicle in the garage area
for an extended period of time. Upon his return, he discovered a tool box was missing from within the
vehicle. There is little information available at this time, but detectives are working with building security
to help develop leads.
The CID investigated the theft of a motor vehicle from the gated community. The vehicle's GPS systems
used 3G technology to track the vehicle, but effort to locate the vehicle failed due to ATT ending 3G
wireless services. Detectives forwarded the theft information to other agencies. The Broward Sheriff's
Office later located the vehicle and arrested an individual for the auto theft.

Additionally, Marine Patrol conducted night time waterway patrols targeting illegal charters and noise

On Saturday, the BSO encountered one individual walking their dog on the jogging path. The dog was
removed upon request. The BSO later encountered a dog on the beach and it was removed upon
request.
In light of recent complaints regarding dogs without leashes in that area, the BSO conducted bicycle
patrol along with another Marine Patrol Officer and conducted area checks of the beach area and the
walking path just south of the Oceana (10201 Collins Avenue). This weekend the BSO did not observe
any dogs without leashes in that area.
While on bicycle patrol, the BSO observed a tent that was erected on the jetty, the owner was asked to
take it down, due to the potential risk of injury to others.
Throughout the day, the BSO educated fishermen about the dangers of fishing inside the swim zone
area while beach goers are swimming. The fishermen were urged to fish on the ocean side in order to
prevent injuries to swimmers.
While on bicycle patrol, the BSO conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that refused to stop for pedestrians
on the crosswalk at 9900 Collins Avenue. The driver was educated and issued a verbal warning. While
