The victim reported a small, personal safe was missing from his bedroom closet. Preliminary investigation revealed the apartment door was not properly secured. Detectives are working with the building security personnel to gather available videos in an effort to develop investigative leads. The CID is working with security from a second beachside condominium to determine who may have taken a tool box from a vehicle parked on the premises. The victim parked the vehicle in the garage area for an extended period of time. Upon his return, he discovered a tool box was missing from within the vehicle. There is little information available at this time, but detectives are working with building security to help develop leads. The CID investigated the theft of a motor vehicle from the gated community. The vehicle's GPS systems used 3G technology to track the vehicle, but effort to locate the vehicle failed due to ATT ending 3G wireless services. Detectives forwarded the theft information to other agencies. The Broward Sheriff's Office later located the vehicle and arrested an individual for the auto theft. Marine Patrol / Beach Safety Officer Details Stops Citations Warnings Arrests Reports AOA Contacts 05 02 08 00 00 00 56 Remarks Marine Patrol: The Marine patrol conducted a check of all sea, beach and Jetty area. No issues detected or reported. Additionally, Marine Patrol conducted night time waterway patrols targeting illegal charters and noise enforcement. Several contacts were made including a charted party boat. No violations were reported. Beach Safety Officer: On Saturday, the BSO encountered one individual walking their dog on the jogging path. The dog was removed upon request. The BSO later encountered a dog on the beach and it was removed upon request. In light of recent complaints regarding dogs without leashes in that area, the BSO conducted bicycle patrol along with another Marine Patrol Officer and conducted area checks of the beach area and the walking path just south of the Oceana (10201 Collins Avenue). This weekend the BSO did not observe any dogs without leashes in that area. While on bicycle patrol, the BSO observed a tent that was erected on the jetty, the owner was asked to take it down, due to the potential risk of injury to others. Throughout the day, the BSO educated fishermen about the dangers of fishing inside the swim zone area while beach goers are swimming. The fishermen were urged to fish on the ocean side in order to prevent injuries to swimmers. While on bicycle patrol, the BSO conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that refused to stop for pedestrians on the crosswalk at 9900 Collins Avenue. The driver was educated and issued a verbal warning. While Suspicious Incident 10200 blk Collins (Beach Side) 03/28/2022 Burglary Motor Vehicle 10185 Collins Avenue The victim said he left his vehicle parked in the secured parking garage of his building on March 22, 2022, when he returned on March 28, 2022, he discovered his vehicle had been burglarized and thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise were missing. Sunny Isles Beach Police Crime Scene responded and processed the vehicle. There were no surveillance cameras in the area that captured the incident. This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further follow-up. 03/28/2022 Fraud • 00 Collins Avenue The victim contacted Bal Harbour police after he noticed several alarming transactions occurring with his bank account. The suspicious charges appeared in February 2022 and continued. The victim was advised to place a "fraud" alert on his account immediately and notify the credit bureaus. This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further follow-up. 03/30/2022 Stolen Vehicle 160 Bal Cross Drive Officers were summoned to the residence regarding a stolen vehicle. The owner told officers he parked his vehicle in the driveway around midnight with the doors unlocked and the key fob inside. Early the next morning he discovered his vehicle missing. Hours later, Bal Harbour officers in conjunction with our partners with the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) located the vehicle in Broward County. A surveillance was established on the vehicle and one subject was arrested. The vehicle was recovered in good condition. Bal Harbour CID and BSO are conducting a joint follow-up investigation.
