On Saturday, Marine Patrol participated Mystic Force Hero Foundation’s Week on the water at the Haulover Sandbar with Aquatic Flavors. On Wednesday, the Marine Patrol Officers attended the mandatory department-wide Blue Courage Training. On Thursday, Marine Patrol participated in the “Take Your Child to Work Day” event, several children and their parents were given a tour of our waterway. Officer Waisman was on vacation this week. The BSO conducted weekend checks of the beach, jetty and hardpack. Additionally, the BSO followed up on complaints regarding code issues with beach equipment and trash being left on the beach overnight. On Saturday, the BSO and Code officer visited and spoke to all beach building attendants. Their efforts resulted in compliance by all but one building which was resolved by Sunday night. While conducting a beach check, the BSO discovered one dog on the beach. The dog was a certified service dog. The BSO conducted traffic enforcement throughout the weekend. Patrol officers initiated a traffic stop on a reckless driver which led to his arrest for DUI and Reckless Driving. The BSO also assisted with a DUI arrest and breath test. BSO assisted with the security for the Symphony on the Jetty series. 0 4 /2 2 /2 0 2 2 H azar d o u s Co n d i t i o n s Bal Har b o u r Jet t y The Bal Harbour Jetty was closed on Friday and Saturday due to high winds and rough surf. The waves were consistently crashing over the Jetty. 0 4 /2 2 /2 0 2 2 Ch ar i t y Ev e n t Bi scay n e Bay The Bal Harbour Marine Patrol Unit attended the Mystic Force Foundation Hero week. The week-long event for our little Hero’s battling Child Cancer involved various events including a boat cruise with Marine Patrol units from North Miami, Indian Creek and Bal Harbour police departments. 0 4 /2 2 /2 0 2 2 Th e f t 9 7 0 0 Co l l i n s A v en u e An unknown male entered the Neiman Marcus store at ground level and went directly to a merchandise display counter. The male then removed the merchandise and exited the store without paying. The incident was captured on in-store surveillance cameras. This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further follow-up. 0 4 /2 2 /2 0 2 2 M o t o r Veh i cl e Cr ash 9 7 0 0 Bl o ck Co l l i n s A v e n u e Bal Harbour officers investigated a vehicle crash involving a Motor Coach occupied by 14 people, responding officers-initiated injury assessments of all parties and assisted with traffic mitigation efforts. No serious injuries were reported. 0 4 /2 2 /2 0 2 2 Th e f t 9 7 0 0 Co l l i n s A v en u e Versace store associates were retrieving deliveries from the rear exterior drop-off area. The associates were only able to carry in a few packages at a time. Upon returning to retrieve the remaining packages, associates observed a male leaving the area with the packages. The male entered a vehicle and left the area immediately. This case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further follow-up. 0 4 /2 2 /2 0 2 2 Re ck l e ss D r i v i n g /D UI A r r e st 9 9 0 0 Bl o ck Co l l i n s A v e n u e Bal Harbour officersassigned to the high visibility/Passover detail, observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and nearly rear-ended a marked police vehicle with the emergency lights activated . The driver was also observed committing additional violations constituting Reckless Driving. After initiating a traffic stop, the driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. The breathalyzer results revealed the driver blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit. No injuries or damages were reported 0 4 /2 3 /2 0 2 2 A r r e st 1 0 3 0 0 Bl o ck Co l l i n s A v en u e While conducting traffic enforcement along Collins Avenue, a Bal Harbour officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that was traveling northbound, during the traffic stop investigation, it was discovered the driver had an open arrest warrant. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to jail. 0 4 /2 3 /2 0 2 2 D i st u r b an ce /Po ssi b l e Scam 1 0 2 9 5 Co l l i n s A v en u e Officers were dispatched to a disturbance involving six people. The disturbance stemmed from services received and the parties involved were refusing to pay. The parties reached an agreement and the guests paid for services received. The guests were administered a trespass warning from the Ritz- Carlton Bal Harbour. 0 4 /2 3 /2 0 2 2 Sy m p h o n y Bal Har b o u r Jet t y The monthly Symphony by the Sea performed their monthly music series. The event experienced good weather and was well attended. 0 4 /2 7 /2 0 2 2 Bl u e Co u r ag e Tr ai n i ng Bal H ar b o u r The entire Bal Harbour police department, both sworn and non-sworn personnel attended the Blue Courage Training. This was achieved thanks to the cooperation of all involved who voluntarily adjusted their shifts and worked extended hours in order to attend. The training was a successful learning and team building opportunity.
