Video footage shared with other agencies linked thefts at the Bal Harbour Shops with similar thefts at other malls in the South Florida area. Detectives from multiple agencies are sharing information to identify the person(s) involved in the thefts. The CID was limited in its activities due to illness. Marine Patrol / Beach Safety Officer Details Stops Citations Warnings Arrests Reports AOA Contacts 35 09 23 00 02 01 225 Remarks Marine Patrol: In addition to conducting normal daytime marine patrol operations, Bal Harbour marine patrol officers participated in a multi -agency, nighttime maritime detail throughout the entire Memorial Day Weekend. On Saturday May 28, 2022 Bal Harbour marine patrol officers participated in Bicycle Safety Rodeo hosted by Bay Harbor Islands P.D. Miami -Dade Police Department requested assistance regarding a vessel in distress due to bad weather and engine failure. BHPD marine officers located the drifting vessel approximately 400 feet offshore from 9700 Blk Collins Ave. All passengers (wearing life vest) were transferred from their vessel to the Bal Harbour Police boat and transported to the Haulover fuel docks. No injuries were reported. Miami -Dade Police Department requested assistance regarding a shooting incident at Sandspur (Beer Can) Island. BHPD marine officers responded to the scene and located a vessel with the victims and witnesses. Florida Wildlife Commission also responded and received information that a Hispanic male that appears to be living in a tent on the island had fired several shots at four vessels that were anchored on the west side of the island. FWC conducted a search of the island and located a suspect. The victims and witnesses made a positive identification, and the subject was arrested and charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. Beach Safety Officer: Officer Navas is out on paternity leave. BHPD Officers spotted a dog on the beach behind the Harbour House. The visiting party was warned and left the beach with the dog. BHPD officers were dispatched to the beach behind the Ritz Carlton reference a large black and white dog on the beach. Upon contact, the dog was identified as a service dog. The dog and handler left the beach a few minutes later. BHPD officers patrolling the beach issued six warnings for fishing from the rocks.
