Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) investigated several theft related cases during the week. Retail
thefts continue to affect businesses at the Bal Harbour Shops and detectives are working with loss
prevention personnel to identify the suspects involved.
Retail theft cases involving three separate stores were suspended after poor video footage provided
little investigative leads. In one of the cases, a bracelet valued at approximately $2,000 was taken by an
unknown male suspect. The second case involved a high -valued purse with an estimated cost of $3,600.
In the third case, the suspect took a wallet valued at $695. In each of the cases, detectives interviewed
store employees and viewed available video. Where video provided an image of the subject, detectives
prepared need -to -identify flyers and shared the information with other law enforcement agencies.
Detectives investigated an alleged theft of a $20,000 Rolex watch. The owner of the watch filed the
police report but later reported he found the watch. Since detectives confirmed a theft did not occur,
the case was unfounded and closed without further investigation.
Detectives investigated a vehicle burglary that occurred at a beachside condominium building. The
victim claimed the loss of personal property valued at about $2,000. After reviewing several hours of
video, detectives discovered a burglary did not occur on the property during the reported time period.
Detectives met with the victim who claimed she may have erred in determining where the burglary
occurred. The victim now believes the theft of her items may have occurred outside of Bal Harbour
Village. Since there was no evidence of a crime occurring in Bal Harbour, the case was unfounded and
closed without further investigation.
The CID concluded its background investigation of two applicants for the position of police officer. The
finding will be forwarded to the Office of the Chief of Police.

Remarks
Marine Patrol:
While conducting a seawall check from the Inlet, a Bal Harbour marine patrol officer observed a
disabled vessel with five occupants. The marine officers decided to tow the vessel to Haulover Fuel
Docks because it was drifting and dangerously close to the rocks.
Bal Harbour police received complaints of loud music coming from a food service pontoon boat
anchored near Bal Harbour Marina. Miami Dade and Bal Harbour police responded and spoke with
the operator who lowered the music.
Marine Patrol conducted daily area checks of the bayside and ocean side. In addition, Marine Patrol
officers conducted bike patrols, traffic enforcement and assisted with handling calls for service.
