Summary of Activities and Events
Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement Officers (CEOs) assisted patrol officers at the scene of a gas leak on Camden Court.
Construction crews damaged a buried gas line while digging in the area. CEOs assisted with cordoning
off the site until the gas company made repairs.
CEOs patrolling the gated community routinely check construction sitesto ensure appearance standards
are met. While checking the 100 Block of Camden Drive, CEOs noticed construction screens at one of
the sites was in disrepair. CEOs issued a code violation warning and directed the contractor to repair
the screen.
The Code Enforcement Unit revisited various properties in the gated community that were previously
issued code violation warnings for not maintaining their lawns. All of the properties corrected their
deficiencies and were in compliance with Village codes.
Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) investigated an allegation of possible credit card fraud that
occurred at a watch store in the Bal Harbour Shops. The credit card holder received notice of suspicious
activity on his credit card and filed a police report. Detectives met with store representatives and
reviewed the transaction records. The case involved a sale of a watch to a known customer who used
his own credit card and cash to make the purchase. The investigation revealed the victim's credit card
was never charged for the purchase and the alert may have been the result of a computer error. No
crime occurred and the case was unfounded.
Detectives investigated a second allegation of credit card fraud where the victim's credit card was used
to make unauthorized purchases. Working with investigators from Banco Popular, detectives
determined the suspicious transactions occurred outside of Bal Harbour jurisdiction. The case was
unfounded as a crime occurring in the Village and the victim was directed to the agency of proper
jurisdiction.
The CID conducted an investigation of a retail theft occurring at a store in the Bal Harbour Shops. Video
footage depicted an unknown suspect taking a high -value purse from a display and leaving the store
without paying for the item. Detectives prepared a need -to -identify flyer and forwarded the flyer to other
law enforcement agencies in an attempt to identify the offender. The case remains under investigation.
