Two individuals were found walking their dogs on the beach during the afternoon hours. One person was stopped along the beach near the Majestic Condominium and a second person was stopped behind Plaza of Bal Harbour; both were visitors to Village beaches. CEOs informed the dog owners of Village ordinances and the dog owners promptly removed the dogs from the area. CEOs conducted follow-up on a code violation previously issued regarding the installation of an awning at a westside condominium. The owners are currently residing in Canada but are actively working with the Building Department in resolving the permitting issues. CEOs will continue to monitor the owner’s permitting process to ensure compliance with applicable codes. CEOs patrolling the gated community discovered a commercial truck left overnight at a construction site. The truck had signage that violat ed Village ordinances. CEOs issued the property owner a Code Violation Warning and met with the construction supervisors at the site to ensure the truck was removed or properly covered. The Code Enforcement Unit assisted the Building Department in delivering documents related to building structure safety to the affected property owners. The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) investigated two separate retail thefts occurring at the same retailer in the Bal Harbour Shops. Each case involved the theft of a high-value purse. The store’s loss prevention personnel were not able to produce video footage of the thefts. The lack of evidence left little information available for further follow-up. Detectives are assisting the Finance Department in documenting an incident of check washing of a Village check. Washing a check is a process by which fraudsters remove the pay-to-the-order information from a check and re-issue to the check under another payee’s name. Although the check was altered, the Village suffered no monetary loss. Detective Gonzalez provided Autism Awareness training to personnel assigned to Village Hall. The training will assist Village personnel in dealing with persons affected by Autism. Detective Gonzalez also assisted the training section during active shooter training at Village Hall. The training will assist Village personnel respond to an active threat situation. The marine patrol officers continued their day and evening patrols of the intercoastal waterways and sandbar area. Upon arriving, officers spoke with each party and determined the daughter suffers from alcoholism and bi-polar disorder. They were arguing over treatment options, however, the scene was calm and not disruptive. Two lanes of traffic were temporarily closed during the traffic crash investigation. J u l y 2 5 , 2 0 2 2 A ssi st a Ci t i ze n 9 7 0 0 Co l l i n s A v e n u e While patrolling the Collins Avenue corridor, a Bal Harbour officer encountered a homeless male who possibly needed assistance. The officer provided the male with water and other personal necessities. The male did not wish to go to a shelter and left the area. J u l y 2 6 & 2 7 , 2 0 2 2 Tr ai n i n g 6 5 5 9 6 St r ee t BHPD hosted Autism Awareness and Active Shooter training for our Village civilian personnel. The training encompassed a series of lectures, Power Point presentations and hand on practical exercises. J u l y 2 6 ,2 0 2 2 A ssi st a Ci t i ze n 1 0 1 9 0 Co l l i n s A v e n u e Bal Harbour officers assisted an elderly resident who is experiencing housing issues and in need of a place to live. Bal Harbour officers contacted Department of Children and Family who will assist with securing housing for the elderly resident. J u l y 2 6 ,2 0 2 2 A ssi st O t h e r A g e n cy 3 0 0 Bl o ck 9 6 St r e et The Town of Surfside Police requested police assistance regarding an individual experiencing a mental crisis. Bal Harbour officers responded and assisted Surfside officers. The individual was taken into custody and subsequently Baker Acted. J u l y 2 7 ,2 0 2 2 A ssi st O t h e r A g e n cy East Bay H ar b o r D r i v e A Bal Harbour officer was flagged down by a victim of a Hit and Run vehicle crash that occurred near Haulover. The officer immediately broadcasted a vehicle description. Moments later, the vehicle was located, and the driver was detained until Miami-Dade Police arrived. No injuries or significant damages were reported. J u l y 2 8 ,2 0 2 2 Tr af f i c Cr ash H ar d i n g A v e n u e an d 9 6 St r ee t Bal Harbour officers were summoned to a traffic crash involving two disabled vehicles. Officers diverted traffic until the vehicles were safely removed from the intersections. No property damage or serious injuries were reported.
