Barbara Battle — Page 1, Date of minutes is September 1, 2010 it should read October 6, 2010
Page 1, Membership 2" sentence under Barbara Battle, I did not make that statement.
Chair Lorene Reed — I made that statement.
Member Barbara Battle made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected. By unanimous consent the
motion is passed.
Dark in December:
Chair Lorene Reed — Typically we have not met in the month of December because of so many events and
so much activity in that month but we need to bring it up for approval each year.
Member D. Joyce Edner made a motion to go dark in December. By unanimous consent the motion is
passed.
Membership Update:
Chair Lorene Reed — We have been discussing membership in this Seniar Center. We have held focus
group meetings. The first meeting was abundantly clear that the majority of patrons were against any type
of inembership. It escalated and it was all over Lynwood that we were going to charge people to come into
this building. That is not what we were attempting to do, we do not have the authority to do anything like
that. If something comes to us as a recommendation from one of the seniors in this Center it's because that
senior saw a benefit to having it. We know that before we can make a recommendation we have to get your
input. We took it to focus group meetings and from there it got out of control. Where we are right now, we
had a focus group meeting yesterday and the Department Director came by and we will no longer be
considering any type of inembership here in the Lynwood Senior Center. We can ease your minds. Please
fact find and make sure you have all of the details before you protest. Don't protest what you have heard.
Please come to Marisa or Mark, let's keep it in the Senior Center. A lot of this could have been avoided if
you had come to this meeting and asked questions here. Council has appointed each one of us to be their
representative. We are only going to do what is best for everyone.
Activities Report:
1. Sycuan Casino:
Conrad Smith — I went and I enjoyed the trip. I would like to go back again.
Chair Lorene Reed — I also went, didn't win but had a lot of fun.

2. Western Country Dance:
Chair Lorene Reed —1 attended the Western Dance, it was a lot of fun. It was sponsored by the Red
Hatters. I was given the opportunity to promote my trip. It was a very nice turn out. What I liked the
most was that it was seniors entertaining, they were from another senior center. Something we need
to do is interact with other centers more often.

Seniors 65-years and older, photo ID required.
6. Christmas Gala — Thursday, December 9, 20l 0.
Chair Lorene Reed — Mrs. Cordova, on the staff report I want you to explain where you get the turkeys for
the giveaway.
Marisa Cordova — The turkeys are all based on donations from the community. That is why we limit it to
150, we are not sure from year-to-year what the donations will be. We have been fortunate to help everyone
who signed up, hopefully we will be able to help everyone on our list.
Member Paulette Bradley — Who qualified? It looks like this year's qualifications were slightly different. I
don't remember the age being 65-years last year. Do they have to be Lynwood residents?
Marisa Cordova — Yes, priority goes to Lynwood residents and we do have a waiting list.
Chair Lorene Reed — We want to give a turkey to everyone who comes and asks for one but unfortunately
the economy does not allow it, it's based on who wants to give us turkeys. I want to thank Mary Fuller, she
got Jones Lumber to donate turkeys.
Board Orals:
Paulette Bradley — I thoroughly enjoyed this year's Western Dance. The seniors' entertaining us was a nice
plus. The DJ had some of the best music. The rest of the group danced and did a demonstration on all the
different line dance moves. We were very happy with the way it turned out.
Tina Hart — We still have people from Bateman Hall in the parking in the back. People have to walk around
because the parking lot is full due to Bateman Hall.
Chair Lorene Reed — That is an issue that has been brought up. Bateman Hall does notify us when they are
having an event. We put out the signs but we need someone to monitor the parking.
2
Marisa Cordova — We are looking at different solutions like someone monitoring the parking lot in the
back. We are also working with Parking Enforcement and Public Works on how we can get the back
parking spaces reserved for the seniors. We are looking at different solutions to see how we are able to park
nearby. They are looking at a parking extension project by March 2011 in the front of Bateman Hall.
Chair Lorene Reed — It's important to keep our issues in-house. I felt like a child being chastised at last
night's Council Meeting. I was so embarrassed. I talked to some of the seniors who felt the same way.
Immediately following the meeting last night I rushed up to the Mayor and I apologized to her because I felt
so embarrassed that we had a group of young people there that we should be serving as an example. We are
running to them like children, we are more than adults. We can handle our own issues. If you don't trust me
trust someone else. We will take care of whatever it is. We are talking about being embarrassed at the
Council Meeting last night and being talked to as if we were being spanked and put on punishment. So
please, these meeting are for you to let us know what you are not happy about. When you go outside and
complain it comes right back to Mark then he calls Marisa. You might as well start here because this is
where it is all solved anyway. The City Council is there to set policies for the City.
Adjournment: Member Barbara Battle made a motion to adjourn, 2" by Member Pamela Taylor. By
unanimous consent the meeting adjourned at 12:37 p.m.
