Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) closed two retail theft cases that occurred at different retailers
in the Bal Harbour Shops. The first case involved the theft of purses with a value of approximately $4,900.
The second case involved the theft clothing valued at approximately $850. Detectives contacted the
businesses and requested any video footage that could assist with suspect identification. Neither store
was able to provide video of the theft. Detectives suspended the investigations due to a lack of available
evidence. The cases, however, can be revisited if/when new information comes to light.
Detectives investigated an allegation of alleged stalking. The victim was an employee of a local
restaurant and reported her ex -boyfriend as the stalker. Detectives attempted to gather information to
corroborate the victim's account, but the victim was uncooperative. Regardless, detectives provided the
victim with information about obtaining a restraining order. However, without the victim's cooperation,
there was insufficient evidence to substantiate an allegation of stalking.
Detectives investigated a theft of Apple Air Pods from a spa at a beachside hotel. The Air Pods were
traced to the home of a spa employee using the find -my -Air Pods application. Detectives were able to
contact the spa employee and recover the Air Pods. The spa worker was fired from her employment as
a result of the incident. The victim was satisfied with the return of his Air Pods and refused to prosecute
the case. The investigation was closed at the victim's request.

Remarks
Marine Patrol:
This week marine officers responded to two disable vessels drifting at Haulover Inlet and a couple
drifting through the inlet without a life vest. Marine officers assisted in all incidents, and no injuries were
reported. While patrolling the intercoastal waterways, the marine officers conducted two vessels stops
for manatee zone violations.
Marine officers continued the evening patrols throughout the weekend with a focus on noise and safety
violations.
Beach Safety Detail Activity:
This week, the BSO reported a low number of beach goers. The BSO conducted an inventory of beach
flags / ResQ discs needing to be replaced. The BSO checked all exclusionary buoys and all are
accounted for. While conducting an area check, the BSO was made aware of an individual trespassing
onto the Sea View Hotel property. The BSO made contact with the individual who stated he was from
out of town and really needed to use the bathroom. The individual apologized and stated that he would
not enter the property without authorization again.
During the week, the BSO conducted bike patrol on the beach in the early and late afternoon. While
conducting an area check, the BSO encountered a male and female covered from head to toe while
lying on the sea oats behind the St. Regis. The BSO checked on their welfare and discovered that they
were homeless. The BSO provided them with a Miami Dade County Homeless Trust Information
card/resource card.
The BSO also responded to assist Surfside PD regarding a vehicle driving on the hardpack at a high rate
of speed. The BSO located the vehicle and waited until Surfside PD arrived and took over the scene.
