CITY OF MEDINA
RESOLUTION NO.2006-78
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING GREENHOUSE GAS
EMISSION REDUCTION
WHEREAS, Medina desires to place an emphasis on establishing a healthier environment
through a commitment to:
• creating parks, trails and paths which increase public access and enjoyment of nature;
• maintaining a system of trails and sidewalks which allow people to travel without the use of
vehicles;
• developing a water management plan which strives toward attaining water quality;
• instituting development concepts or regulations to protect woods, trees, lakes, ponds,
streams, wetlands, and other significant natural resources;
• implementing anti -erosion policies and requiring wetland buffer zones;
• sustaining a viable recycling program for the entire community;
• preserving natural areas for their environmental importance to Medina, its citizens, and the
greater world.
WHEREAS, Medina has taken these steps because the City believes that protecting the
environment is an integral part of providing a high quality of life, which Medina provides to its
citizens; and
WHEREAS, global warming is in part the effect of human activities and natural systems
that effect the world's climate; and
WHEREAS, the City of Medina, MN desires to be an on -going leader in adoption of
environmental protection laws and practices, including existing practices that help to reduce the

greenhouse gasses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of the city of Medina,
Minnesota that because Medina firmly believes in environmental quality as a necessity to providing
a high quality of life to its citizens, the City of Medina will endeavor to the extent practical to
conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its governmental operations and buildings
and encourage its citizens to take steps to reduce their own greenhouse gas emissions and promote
energy conservation.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member Weir
upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:
Weir, Workman, Cavanaugh, Smith
And the following voted against same: (Absent: Brinkman)
None
Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
