HomeMy Public PortalAbout2007-011 Resolution Authorizing Funding for Orono Discovery Center Infrastructure ProjectMember Weir introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: CITY OF MEDINA RESOLUTION NO.2007-11 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING FOR THE ORONO DISCOVERY CENTER INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT WHEREAS, The Discovery Center serves residents of the city of Medina as a community of the Orono School District, and is a major asset to the community through arts and education, and community services and houses 30 community programs, including those for Medina seniors and youth. WHEREAS, The Discovery Center is a vital point of access to support services by the low and moderate income households in Medina that would otherwise be out of reach, WHEREAS, Through partial funding by a Hennepin County Community Development Block Grant, the Discovery Center has the opportunity to update the badly outdated infrastructure of the building, including phones, computer and Internet access and signage that allow continued service to residents, WHEREAS, The importance of support from the cities for the Discovery Center project is significant for the continuation of services and programs for Medina residents. WHEREAS, The Discovery Center has been proactive in securing the majority of support from other funding sources for the project and is requesting the smallest level of support from the cities, WHEREAS, Support from the cities leverages a small amount of funds to take advantage of the use or lose CDBG funds to create long term stability and growth potential, WHEREAS, A shortfall in project funding of $8,400 can be met with an equal contribution of $1400 by each of the cities within the Orono School District, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Medina does hereby approve funding support for the Discovery Center infrastructure improvement project in the amount of $1400.
