MANAGEMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT DATE: TO: FROM: July 5, 2017 The Honorable City Council Bryan Cook , City Manager By: Peggy Kuo , City Clerk MEMORANDUM SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTIONS CONFIRMING APPOINTMENTS TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION, PLANNING COMMISSION AND TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to: 1. Adopt Resolution No . 17-5267 confirming appointment of Lance Baroldi , Joanne Rosso and Cynthia Vance to the Parks and Recreation Commission with terms ending June 30 , 2019 (Attachment "A"); 2 . Adopt Resolution No. 17-5268 confirming appointment of John Cordes , Helen Marston and Jeffrey Lee to the Planning Commission with terms ending June 30, 2019 (Attachment "B"); 3. Adopt Resolution No . 17-5269 confirming appointment of Noel Palmieri to the Transportation and Public Safety Commission for an une xpired term ending June 30 , 2018 (Attachment "C"); and 4. Adopt Resolution No. 17-5270 confirming appointment of Douglas Blatt, Jim Clift and Betty Kwon to the Transportation and Public Safety Commission with term ending June 30, 2019 (Attachment "D"). BACKGROUND: 1. On March 9, 2017, Transportation and Public Safety Commissioner Danny Redmond resigned his position on the Commission effective June 30 , 2017. 2. On April 6 and April 13, 2017, notice for the City Commission vacancies was published in the Temple City Tribune. City Council July 5, 2017 Page 2 of 3 3. During the month of April, 2017, the vacancies were advertised in the City Manager's Report and the City's website inviting application of eligible persons. 4. By the deadline of April 28, 2017, the City Clerk's Office had received six (6) applications for the position of Parks & Recreation Commissioner, seven (7) applications for the position of the Planning Commissioner, and nine (9) applications for the position of the Transportation and Public Safety Commissioner. 5. On May 19 and June 2, 2017, the Commissioner Recruitment Ad Hoc Committee (i.e., Mayor ProTem Man and Councilmember Fish) interviewed eight applicants. 6. On June 7, 2017, the Commission Recruitment Ad Hoc Committee selected five (5) applicants for interview before the full Council. 7. On June 16, 2017, a Special Meeting was scheduled for interview of the five (5) applicants by the City Council. ANALYSIS: Pursuant to Section 1103 of the City Charter, members of all commissions and boards of the City shall be appointed by the City Council and shall serve at the pleasure of said City Council. City Council is requested to confirm appointments to the Planning, Transportation and Public Safety, Parks and Recreation commission. If appointed, the appointees will receive their Oath of Office at the City Council Meeting of July 5, 2017. Appointments of the new commissioners in July will ensure that the Commissions will be able to continue with business as usual. CITY STRATEGIC GOALS: Adoption of the resolutions confirming appointments to City Commissions will promote the City's Strategic Goal of Good Governance.
