SUBJECT: DISCUSSION REGARDING PROPOSED HOUSING PROJECT AT
6343-6359 ROSEMEAD BOULEVARD (GOLDEN MOTEL SITE)
RECOMMENDATION :
Th e City Counc il is requested to accept publ ic comments and provide d irection to staff as
appropriate regard ing the proposed housing project at 6343-6359 Rosemead Boulevard
(Go lden Motel site).
BACKGROUND :
1. On May 2 , 2017, num erous peop le attended the City Council meeting to express
their opposition to a proposal by Mercy Housing to convert the existing Golden
Motel into an affordable transitional ho using project.
2 . On May 31 , 2017, the Los Angeles County Reg iona l Planning Comm ission is
scheduled to hold a public hearing to consider approvi ng the project.
ANALYSIS:
Mercy H ousing has filed applications with the County of Los Angeles to convert the
exis tin g Golden Motel into a facil ity that would provide affordable transitional hous i ng for
veterans and former ly homeless individuals . The facility wou ld have 169 housing units ,
all of which would be studio or one bedroom . The project would include a complete
interior and exterior remodel of the existing buildings .
Whi le the street and sidewalk i n front of the project site are located in Temple City, the
project site itself is lo cated in unin corpo rated Los Angeles County and therefore not

under the City's ju risdiction . The City 's role is lim ited to rev iewing and comment ing on
th e project , the sa me as a ny other member of t he pu b lic . The City is reviewing the
proposed p roject an d rela ted analysis. If deemed appropriate by the City Coun cil , the
Ci t y will sub m it a co mm e nt le tt er to th e Cou nty co nce rnin g t he p rojec t.
Sin ce th e project is not under th e Cit y's ju risdicti o n, commen ts made by the public
du ri ng City Co uncil m eeti ngs or oth erwise p rovide d t o the C ity are not cons idered
official comments o n th e project and wi ll not be fo rwa rded to the County . The City

FISCAL IMPACT:
T he proposed project w ou ld have no impact on the Ci ty Budget since it is not located in
Temple City .
