HomeMy Public PortalAboutAgricultural Advis 2016-03-14 ORLEANS TOWN CLERK AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES OF MARCH 14,2016, MEETING \Ct3wL, %sl '16 OCi 4 12:35 The meeting was called to order at 3:30pm. Present were Chairman David Light,Gretel Norgeot,Steve Ellis, Barbara Dean,Selectman Jon Fuller, and Conservation Administrator John Jannell. John Jannell said that because farming plots will not be ready for leasing this summer, he was seeking a recommendation from the Council on suitable plantings to maintain the field. Gretel Norgeot recommended a sowing of low-growing White Dutch clover. Pumpkins would be sown among the clover after it was established. In the fall,as an educational project, middle school students would harvest the pumpkins.. Steve Ellis and Gretel Norgeot moved that the Council recommend the plantings as outlined above. Motion passed 4-0-0. The clover will be sown in early April,with the pumpkins(a medium-sized variety)to be sown around June first.The April and June dates will be posted as Council meetings.John Jannell will obtain the seed. To save expenses,the water line will not be put into.use this year. A stake and twine fence will be put around the planting field. che. Ce The Council will invite Mr.Beuchez,the barn inspector,to speak at a future meeting about his work. _ Gretel Norgeot reported on the project now under way to secure non-profit status for the Orleans Farmers'market. David Light reported on the Ag Commission Regional Roundtable which was held at the Barnstable fairgrounds on February 13. The minutes of the Ag Advisory Council meeting of January 11,2016,were approved by a vote of 2-0-2. Meeting adjourned at 4:24pm by a vote of 4-0-0. Respectfully submitted, David Light,Chairman �� c�
