Based upon the 2006 Edition of the International Building Code (2006 IBC), the required awning live load capacity is 5 PSP (Table 1607.1 item 30). The wind pressure on the canopy, based upon the 2006.I,BC(ASCE 7-05)for 74 MPH wind velocity is less than 23 PSF. This is based upon exposure for heights up to 30'. Canvas awnings can be removed from their supports prior to hurricanes. Based upon canvas awnings ' being removed for wind speeds in excess of 74 MPH, I certify that the Table Rating Vertical Load 7.5 PSP, Wind Load 23 PSF, satisfies the requirements of the 2006 IBC for installed heights under thirty feet (30') for the canopy frame. All other designs in the Awning Design and Standards Manual capable of supporting 7.5 PSF vertical and 23 PSF wind are also approved for all height below thirty feet(30'). The canopy frame system without the canvas satisfies the requirement of the 2006 IBC for design wind speed of 130 MPH Exposure D. This certification is valid for all City of Savannah locations and valid until the adoption of a future code (i.e.2009 International Building Code).
