1 . Chairman 's announcements
The Brewster Dog Park Development Committee is moving forward with the design work for the Town ' s dog park. They
are seeking public input about the design . The next meeting of the committee is Thursday October 11 , 2018 at 6 : OOPM at
Town Hall . The agenda will focus on park design concept and site location . The public is invited to attend .
The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on special event and assessory dwelling bylaw amendments on Wednesday
October 10, 2018 at 7 :OOPM at Town Hall ,
2 . Alex Carlson — 2129 Main Street — variance request
Dr. Scherzo stated that Mr. Carlson would like to keep his existing septic system in place while constructed a full
foundation under the house .
In 2002 the Board of Health granted Mr. Carlson a variance that would allow him to keep his septic tank 4 . 5 feet from the
foundation (with an impervious barrier installed) for an addition . In 2004 a 24' (instead of 20') addition was built on sono
tubes . The addition as built is less than 1 foot from the septic tank.
Mr. Carlson is looking for a 9 ' variance from the foundation to the tank at this time.
Ms . Hausser Holeman recused herself from the hearing .
Mrs . Graczewski asked Mr. Carlson if he consulted with any engineer or professional on this project. Mr. Carlson stated
that he did not but does have a professional person digging the foundation . Mrs . Graczewski is concerned with the
foundation being so close to the septic tank and is worried about the structural integrity of the tank.
Mr. Carlson stated that the majority of the digging for the foundation would be away from the septic tank and when it did
get close, it would be dug carefully with a small machine . He is aware that if something happens to the tank it is his
responsibility to fix it.
Dr. Scherzo asked what the cellar would be used for. Mr. Carlson stated that it would be office, storage and open space .
He also noted that he would be putting an impervious barrier in .

Motion : Deny the variance due to safety concerns with the septic tank.
Motion : Annette Graczewski Second : Nancy Leach (for discussion)
Mr. Carlson asked if he could put a foundation under part of the house and keep it 10 feet from the tank.
Dr. Scherzo stated that if he did that he would not need anything from the Board of Health in the way of a variance or
permission because it would . meet the setbacks .
Mr. Carlson withdrew his request for a variance.
Mrs . Graczewski withdrew her motion and Dr. Leach withdrew her second .
