Brewster All Citizens Access Committee Meeting
September 21 2018
Present: Joan Carstanjen , Mary Haynes , Laurel Labdon , Judy Miller , Roberta Murphy ,
Cindy Bingham , Select Board Liaison
Alternate: Denise Rego
Guest : Chris Miller
Come to order : The meeting was called to order at 1 : 05 pm at the Brewster Police
Department conference room .
Welcome our newest member : Laurel Labdon
The minutes of the May 18th meeting were voted unanimously to accept them after 1
correction .
Denise wanted to thank Claire Gradone , past chairperson , as well as Jim O ' Leary , for
volunteering their time as past committee members .
Vote for Judy Miller as our new secretary : Board voted unanimously . Judy will commit
to 1 year as secretary.
Discuss and vote on a new chairperson : No one is interested in becoming the
chairperson . Chris Miller mentioned that we can rotate among ourselves on a monthly
basis , working with Judy for agenda and minutes .
All Citizen Access Committee membership : We are a 5 member committee with Denise
being an alternate .
Old Business/New Business : Denise Rego will check with our Finance Department to find
out how much money we have remaining from our post projects . We can then connect with
Mark O' Brien to find out how much it will cost for finish the installation of automatic
doors at the golf course.
Chris Miller indicated that he could apply for a grant to help will modifications to town
buildings/ properties , but the deadline is October 1St. He's hoping to get some funding to
hire a professional to review our needs in town and make a recommendation .
They will be taking up the mats from Paine's Creek , Breakwater Beach and Mant's Landing
for the winter . We still hope to have a beach wheelchair shed built to increase the usage
of our beach wheelchair . Cindy mentioned that we should take a picture of the 2 beach
wheelchairs to post at the visitor's center to increase it usage .
Other business not anticipated by the chair : Committee members talked about
accessibility for non- town buildings and Denise mentioned the project that this committee
did years back with regards to evaluating our Brewster restaurants for accessibility of
handicapped parking space , doorway size and bathroom accessibility . We would like to ask
Victor Staley , our building commissioner and Ryan Bennett from the Planning Office to
come to our next meeting to discuss .
Next meeting : October 19 , 2018 at 2pm at the Brewster Police Facility .
The meeting was adjourned at 1 : 38pm .
