3. PUBLIC HEARING
A. MID-CENTURY GENERAL PLAN, CROSSROADS SPECIFIC PLAN, AND
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT
The Commission recommended that the City Council approve the Mid-
Century General Plan, Crossroads Specific Plan and Environmental Impact
Report. The General Plan, last updated in 1987, provides direction on the
physical aspects of land use, mobility, economic development, community
services, natural resources, and hazards. The Specific Plan is an essential
tool to implement the vision and goals established in the General Plan, in
that it focuses new growth away from established residential neighborhoods
and toward the crossroads of two major streets (Rosemead Boulevard and
Las Tunas Drive). At this intersection, the Crossroads Specific Plan is
intended to meet the community's desires for a place to shop, dine,
socialize, and recreate within the City whereas the General Plan preserves
the City's single-family neighborhoods.
