WHEREAS, Violence and racism have targeted black and brown men in
the United States for far too long and the systematic
problems of racism and violence towards people of color to
this day; and
WHEREAS, On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year old black man was
murdered in Minneapolis by a white police officer, setting off
a series of peaceful public protests calling for justice and
police reform to end violence and discrimination against
people of color; and
WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae stands in solidarity with all peaceful
protestors and the just causes they are fighting for, with the
clear understanding that their voice and actions, even if
uncomfortable and inconvenient are real and valid; and
WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae commits itself to ensuring that every
person who lives, works, and visits Millbrae will be treated
with respect and dignity by all of the City’s direct, and
indirect, public servants, and that racism and bigotry, in all
its forms, will not be tolerated in Millbrae; and
WHEREAS, the City of Millbrae continually evaluates its policies and
procedures to identify problems that exist, and make
continual improvements to the way all people, but
specifically people of color, are addressed and treated by
the City’s public servants; and
NOW, THEREFORE WE, the members of the Millbrae City Council, do hereby
grieve for all the victims of racism, hate, a violence everywhere, and commit
to stopping explicit and implicit racism and bigotry to the fullest extent
possible.
