SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL A-IOS
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill A-108, released by the Assembly Housing and Local Government
Committee, would prohibit the governing body of municipalities from awarding a professional
services contract to certain elected officials; and
WHEREAS, as such, A-108, would prohibit the governing body of a municipality from
awarding a professional services contract to a member of the Legislature, or a county elected
official in that county, or a county elected official of that municipality, or to any partnership,
[mil, or elected official of that municipality, or to any partnership, firm, or corporation in which
such an individual holds employment or has an interest. It would not affect contracts in effect on
the bill's effective date; and
\VHEREAS, purpose of A-108 is to eliminate the risk of actual or perceived corruption that may
arise when elected officials perfoml no-bid professional services contracts for municipalities
located within the jurisdiction they serve as elected officials; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey League of Mlmicipalities strongly supports A-108 as released and
has requested tbat all of its members to go on record similarly supporting the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, as follows:
1. That the Borough of Carteret hereby supports Assembly Bill A-108 released by
the Assembly Housing and Local Government Committee.
2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the New Jersey League of
Municipalities.
