SUPPORTING ASSEiVIBL Y BILL A-2679
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill A-2679, released by the Assembly Housing and Local Govenmlent
Committee, would provide dedicated line items on property tax bills for the support of municipal
free public libraries and joint free public libraries; and
\VHEREAS, as such, A~2679. would require municipalities in which a free public library is
located or that belong to a joint municipal library to provide for a dedicated library purposes tax
on the property tax bill; and
\VHEREAS, A-2679, under current law, property taxpayers in a municipality which belongs to a
cOlmty library received property tax bills which include line item showing the amount the
taxpayer is paying to support the county library, the bills would remove the appropriations for
municipal libraries and joint municipal libraries from a municipality's general fund and provide a
dedicated line item on the property ta.x bill; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey League of Municipalities strongly supports A-2679 and request
that a provision be added to have the bill take effect the following tax year and has requested that
all of its members to go on record sim.ilarly supporting the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, as follows:
1. That the Borough of Carteret hereby supports Assembly Bill A-2679 released by
the Assembly Housing and Local Government Committee.
2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the New Jersey League of
Municipalities.
