Chair Telman called the meeting to order at 6 : 00 p .m .

PRIORITY BUSINESS
Tour of the New Bus
Superintendent Conrad and members of the committee took a few minutes to tour the new propane bus . He updated
the committee on the fueling system and thanked Claire Gradone, Brewster representative on the Committee for her
efforts on the Transportation Subcommittee . He reminded the committee that the First Student bus contract increased
40% in three years and that there will be a savings of approximately $250, 000 using the Cape Cod Collaborative .
Update on the Principal Search
Carol Forgione, HR Coordinator for the Nauset Public School District, gave the committee a brief history of the search
that took place in June, noting there were 26 applicants, 5 were interviewed and 1 moved forward to the
Superintendent. Unfortunately, that candidate accepted a position in another District. The search was reopened but the
search committee did not find the right fit. Superintendent Conrad thanked the Search Committee and announced that
Assistant Superintendent Keith Gauley would be the full- time interim principal for Stony Brook Elementary School
for the 2018 -2019 school year. He announced that his duties as Assistant Superintendent will be taken care of by
central office personnel . He also indicated that a letter was sent to staff and parents relative to the interim principal
appointment.
Keith Gauley addressed the committee indicating his excitement for the opportunity to serve the community as Interim
Principal . He reported the work he did over the summer months in hiring new staff for the school . He assured the
committee that everything will be ready for the opening of school . He thanked Laureen Barnes and Sue Ford for all
their assistance . Committee members thanked the Superintendent and Keith Gauley indicating this will be a great year
for Stony Brook.
Update on Personnel Issues
Keith Gauley distributed the Stony Brook staff list. He also indicated he will be hosting a workshop for parents
regarding the new Library/Media space . He sent out a letter to parents and staff relative to school opening. The
Committee would like updates on the job share in First Grade and would like Administration to keep an eye on it. A
tour of the school is scheduled for Wednesday, August 29"' from 1 : 45 p .m . — 2 : 30 p .m . He indicated that on
September 5 '" from 34 p .m . children can meet their Teacher from 9 : 00 — 10 : 00 a.m . Open House is schooled on
Wednesday, September 12f` from 5 : 30 — 7 : 00 p .m .
Parent Request to Waive Age Requirement for Kindergarten/First Grade (Policy JEB)
The Chair reviewed the District Policy JEB , entrance age . A parent addressed the committee about her child beginning
First Grade as she missed the cut off date by a couple of weeks . The child completed Kindergarten in Concord, MA
and will be 6 on September 18t". It was indicated that there has never been an exception to this policy in Brewster.

MASC has been talking about a state-wide cut-off date for first grade . Kindergarten is not mandatory . The parent
inquired if there was a policy in Grade 2 and the committee indicated that there is no policy in grade 2 . The parent was
contemplating home schooling for a year.
Policies
Policies were held. Members requested more information on Crowdfunding and would like to revisit the staff and
student social media policy.

Motion : On a motion by Jessica Larsen, seconded by Marie Enochty, it was voted 4-0 to approve the minutes of June
20, 2018s
On a motion by Jessica Larsen, seconded by Marie Enochty, it was voted 4-0 to approve the minutes of July 12, 2018 .
On a motion by Claire Gradone, seconded by Jessica Larsen, it was voted 4-0 to approve the executive session minutes
of July 12, 2018 .
Adjournment
On a motion by Jessica Larsen, seconded by Claire Gradone, it was voted 4-0 to adjourn the meeting at 6 : 51 p .m.
