CITY OF MEDINA
RESOLUTION NO.2011-56
RESOLUTION ADOPTING A BENEFIT POLICY FOR CITY OF
MEDINA EMPLOYEES
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Medina to provide health and dental
benefits to city employees to attract and maintain the highest quality staff possible.
WHEREAS, the costs of these benefits continue to escalate at a rapid rate.
WHEREAS, the benefits offered by the City of Medina in 2011 appear to be at a higher
cost to the city than neighboring cities are paying for health and dental benefits.
WHEREAS, the Medina City Council wishes to bring the benefit costs in line with other
neighboring cities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city council of the city of Medina,
Minnesota as follows:
The annual city cost of health and dental benefits shall not exceed the estimated cost paid in
2011, which is $437,639, for 24 full-time employees, by requiring the employees to pay any
increases above that amount until the employees are paying twenty-five percent (25%) of
the individual total cost at which time the city share of health and dental costs may increase
to keep the city employee cost at twenty-five per cent (25%). The $437,639 figure assumes
the city will continue to employ 24 full-time employees; if the city hires additional full-time
staff the figure will increase by $17,544.60 for each additional employee.
