The regular meeting of the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida, was held at the Town Commission Room in j the Gulf Stream Golf Club Building, with Mayor- Commissioner Jobb Lindsay, Vice - Mayor- Commissioner /and Commissioner -Town Clerk Bauer being present. Said meeting held January 28, 1948. The minutes of the regular meeting held on December 23, 1947 were read and after discussion were approved without alteration or correction as read, on motion duly made, secondTed and carried. Mr. Cook, former Superintendent of Public Works of the Town of Boynton Beach was present and discussed with the Com- mission his application for a position as Superintendent of Public ti7orks in the Town, and also presented the Commission with certain facts and data relative to installation of a water pumping and distribution plant for the down. The Commission did not feel it was in a position to employ Yr. Cook at this time, nor was it in a position to dis- cuss or enter into any contract for the installation of a water pumpting and distribution system. r. Cook was thanked for attending the meeting and giving the Commission the information in reference to water. Kr. Bauor presented Charles Senior, i.ianager of the r'loxida Power and Light company of Delray Beach, and i.-Ir. Senior in turn presented to the Oommission a properly drawn and signed 1cceptance by the zloridu rower and Light Company of the 2ranchise Ordinance recently adopted by the Town Commission, which Acceptance was filed with the Commission, and on motion duly made, seconded and carried, the Acceptance was Approved and ordered placed in the files of the own, thereby closing with the Power Company the Franchise Ordinance and the proposition and understanding between the Town and the Power Company. P r. Senior was thanked for his being present, and also for his assistance given the Town in bringing about the passage and acceptance of said Franchise Ordinance. A lengthy discussion was hold on the cost of building for the Town a water plant and the possible returns to be had from the same. There was also a discussion as to the possibil- ity of purchasing water from Delray Beach or Boynton Beach. It was finally decided that the most economical plan would be to purchase water from Delray Beach. Mayor Lindsay suggested that he and Town Attorney C. y. Byrd confer with the City Manager of Delray Beach, also the Mayor of Delray Beach, in an effort to secure a long -term contract whereby the Town of Delray Beach would furnish and sell at whole- sale to the Town of Gulf Stream water. Idr. Riley of the Bessemer Company volunteered to attend the meeting in case any questions were asked in reference to Delray water now sold to Town of Gulf Stream consumers through the Bessemer pipe line. 1,11 Riley was informed that the Town Officials would be pleased to have him sit in on this conference so that this water ouestion could „ finally be worked out. I;,r. Riley also informed the Commission that Bessemer Properties, one of the largest land owners in the Town, would not oppose a ton -mill tax in the event various municipal improve- ments were made and services rendered the property owners and tax payers. Mr. Lindsay and Mr. Jebb wore under the impression that hat the Town had an agreement with the City of Delray Beach for fire protection. Town Clerk Bauer advised them that Delray had offered to render fire protection to the Town on a flat fee of 4500.00 per year, plus an additional charge for each fire, which offer was turned down by a previous motion by the Commission, as in its opinion the fee was too high. The Commissioners of the Town of Gulf Stream had made a counter -Offer of $100.00 per year for fire protection, and would pay so much per fire in case of a call, which offer was turned down by the City of Delray Beach. Nothing further has been done, and no fires had occurred, thereby the grown is without fire protection otbor than that could be given by the present facilities of the Town. There being no further business coming before the meeting, on motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was regularly adjourned. LW7 i • C.
